Finding a supplier in China has never been easier — and avoiding the wrong one has never been more important. This guide walks through the process our sourcing team uses on every project.
1. Define your requirements first
Before contacting anyone, write down your specifications, target price, order quantity, certifications and delivery date. A clear brief lets you compare quotes fairly and filters out suppliers who can’t meet your needs.
2. Look beyond online marketplaces
B2B platforms are a starting point, but many listings are trading companies. Industry trade shows, industrial cluster visits and referrals often lead to better factories.
Factory or trading company?
Both can work. Factories usually offer better pricing and technical control; good trading companies add value for small orders or multi-product sourcing. The key is knowing which one you’re dealing with.
3. Verify before you pay
Check the business license, export rights and scope of business. A factory audit confirms equipment, capacity and quality systems.
4. Order samples — and test them
Compare samples from at least two or three suppliers. Approve a “golden sample” that becomes the reference for production and inspection.
5. Protect yourself in production
Use a clear purchase order, a reasonable deposit (typically 30%) and a pre-shipment inspection before releasing the balance.
